A conversation with Her.

If I could go back in time and have a conversation with my 20-something year old self, this is what I would say...

In my mid to late twenties I went through somewhat of a quarter life crisis. Now, the thought of a quarter life crisis makes me chuckle, but at the time it felt like my world was falling apart, and in a way it was.

You see, my twenties were dictated by what I thought I should do and who I thought I should be. And all those shoulds led me to feeling incredibly lost and a period of deep depression.

Now, that woman, the woman I used to be with dark hair and sadness in her eyes seems like a stranger to me.

If I could go back in time, hold her in my arms and have a conversation with her, this is what I would say…

“I know that you feel like you’re falling apart, but sometimes you have to fall apart to fall together again.

You may not realize it now, or even a year from now, but at some point you will look back at this time and be grateful.

Grateful for the heartache, the chaos, and the tears. For all of those things are the catalyst guiding you into a life that you never imagined was possible.

I know you don’t understand it or what’s happening. And that’s OK.

Growth is often messy and uncomfortable, and the next few years will continue to be some of the most difficult of your life.

But you will get through this. You always do. But for now you’re exactly where you need to be.

Trust me on this.

I know sometimes you think you’re going crazy. I assure you, you’re not! You’re evolving!

You’re stepping further into your truth and becoming the woman you were born to be.

People will call you crazy though. They will call you lots of things. Don’t take it personally.

People often fear things they don’t understand and that’s OK. These people aren’t your people.

Don’t worry though, you will go on epic adventures and meet soul sisters all over the world.

You will feel connected and eventually a sense of belonging.

You know that whisper (now scream)? The unshakable nagging feeling deep down telling you that you’re not living up to your purpose?

Listen to it. That voice is spot on.

You will find your “purpose”. You will embark on a career path that you never knew was possible. But be patient. Stop forcing it.

Not knowing is a part of your journey.

I also know that you desire love and to find your soulmate.

You will meet a fabulous guy and this guy will love you unconditionally. His love and this relationship will heal you.

This guy, he’s not the “one” though. We’re still searching for him babe.

But this guy I speak of is a kind soul… love him. Give him a chance. And stay with him until the relationship is completed.

Speaking of love, you will find true love, but you’ll find that love where you expect it the least. You’ll find it in yourself.

It will be a difficult relationship, but worth it. For that self-love will become your foundation for the incredible life you’re creating.

You will make mistakes along the way. Many of them. But I’m going to let you make those so you can learn from them.

I don’t have everything figured out. And doubt I ever will as that’s the beauty of the journey.

Embrace it. The ups. The downs. The highs. The lows.

Continue to walk your path bravely and listen to your intuition. You are wise beyond measure.

And it gets better. So much better. Every single year gets better and better…

I love you.

If you could go back in time and have a conversation with a past you, what would you say to Her? I would love to know in the comments below.
